How common is prostate cancer ?

Prostate cancer affects 1 in 6 American men. That makes

it the second most common cancer type in American men, more

so than either lung, bronchitis or digestive system cancer,

excluding skin cancer. Prostate cancer is second only to lung

cancer as the most common cause of cancer death in men.

In 2005 alone, it is estimated that 30,200 men will die

from Prostate Cancer.

THE PROSTATE GLAND

A walnut sized gland in the male reproductive system just below the bladder.

It surrounds part of the urethra, the duct that empties the bladder.

The main function of the prostate is to supply fluid for the sperm during ejaculation.

SPA is produced by the prostate gland.

This year in the United Sates almost 180,000 men will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer .

RISK FACTORS

. Age

. Family History

African American men have a 60% higher incidence rate risk compared to other men.

There are four stages of prostate cancer:

. Stage 1- The cancer cannot be felt during a digital rectal exam. It is found by chance.

. Stage 2- The cancer is more advanced but it is not found outside the prostate.

. State 3- The cancer has spread outside the prostate. It may be in the seminal vessal

or spread to the lymph nodes.

. Stage 4- The cancer may be in nearby muscles or spread to lymph nodes and other parts

of the body.

SCREENING  ( Our Suggestions )

Your doctor can check you for prostate cancer before you have any problems. Your

Physician can explain more about these tests.

DIGITAL  RECTAL  EXAM

The doctor inserts a lubricated gloved finger into the rectum and prostate through the rectal wall.

The prostate is checked for hard or lumpy areas.  This is not our  SUGGESTION  AT  ALL

But this one is the best test to get in my personal opinion, try to catch it while its still in the prostate

() Blood test for prostate cancer – Prostate specific antigen  (PSA) This is a good test

We cannot stress strongly enough the absolute urgency for an annual screening for prostate cancer.

VETERANS-

Veterans can be tested by going to the nearest VA Hospital.

PRIVATE CITIZENS

May use their HMOS for such testing.

THOSE  HAVING  NO  MEDICAL  INSURANCE

May be tested by going to the nearest walk in medical clinic

The resources that are provided for you below will be a source of information and we hope inspiration

for you to bring home the necessity for annual screening for prostate cancer.

I offer insight into the disease of prostate cancer as my personal gift to you.

My father, Rev. James Ferguson suffered and died from prostate cancer.

I am now recuperating from surgery for aggressive Stage 7 Prostate Cancer .
